How does the car clutch work

The clutch of the car is an important part of transmitting the power of the engine to the chassis system of the vehicle. It is located between the engine and the transmission. Now widely used with manual transmission cars, hydraulic friction disc clutches rely on friction to transmit the torque of the engine.
The composition of the clutch: The clutch is mainly composed of the clutch cover (connected with the flywheel by bolts), pressure plate, release bearing, release fork, flywheel (active disc), clutch plate (the diaphragm spring on the clutch plate has the lever function), It is composed of pump sub-pump, oil pipe and pedal.
How does a car clutch work?
The working process of the automobile clutch mainly has several stages of disengagement, semi-linkage and engagement. The power transmission path of the clutch is obtained by the flywheel → pressure plate → clutch plate (driven plate) → transmission input shaft.
When the vehicle is stationary, the clutch is in a normally engaged state, and the clutch pedal is at the highest natural position. When the clutch pedal is stepped on, the clutch master cylinder is compressed using the principle of the lever. The hydraulic oil is pressurized to amplify the pressure, and drives the branch pump to push the clutch fork, and at the same time acts on the separation bearing and compresses the diaphragm spring on the clutch plate to make the clutch The disc completely separates and cuts off the power source from the flywheel, at which point the transmission can be shifted.
When the clutch pedal is lifted to the half-clutch linkage point, the pressing force between the clutch plate and the pressure plate is weak. Because the pressure between the clutch plate and the pressure plate is small, the frictional force is relatively small, and there is a slight friction slip between the clutch plate and the pressure plate. The clutch is in a semi-linked state, and the power transmission at this time is not completely transmitted. (When using half linkage, the clutch disc will wear and ablate). At this time, it is mainly used for the smooth transition phase of vehicle starting (or ramp starting), parking and shifting.
When the clutch pedal is completely relaxed and the pedal is at the highest position, the hydraulic pressure of the pipeline is completely discharged, the diaphragm spring returns to normal, and it does not act as a lever. The clutch plate and the pressure plate are fully fitted and pressed, and the friction between them Increase, there is no friction slip phenomenon, the power from the engine flywheel is completely transmitted to the transmission. At this time, it is mainly used for normal driving of the car or after normal parking.
In the automobile clutch system, the various clearances and strokes of the clutch are also very important. Such as: all kinds of free clearance, pedal height and stroke. Because I have answered articles about clutch problems and the effect of stroke and clearance and adjustment, I will not explain them one by one here.
